Meet Abbey our beautiful Everyday Mermaid!
I had the opportunity to interview and get to know Abbey a fellow Mermaid “Fin”fluencer. She models, blogs, vlogs (video blogging), loves Mermaid, and absolutely loves to create. Read more about her and how she spends everyday as a Mermaid!
I. LOVE. CREATING.
I’ve always wanted to create something that is bigger than me—something that creates a platform to tell a story. To reach people.
Vlogging has given me the ability to create. To tell stories. I’ve met some amazing people through the vlog and I have some HUGE projects coming up because of the platform my vlog has created. This year, for 2018, I decided to choose a word. A word that described what 2018 would be for me. I chose “fulfilling.” So far, 2018 has been just that! I can’t wait to see where this vlog goes, and I am so thankful for everyone who has followed, subscribed, liked, commented and DM’d me through this process. Your support means EVERYTHING!
Where are you from?
I’m originally from North Louisiana, but I moved to Nashville almost 10 years ago and I love it! Honestly, I work a lot, (I’m a content creator for artists here in town,) So when I am not working, I enjoy spending time creating with my friends. I have an awesome group of friends that makes video content for social media networks and we enjoy creating together!
Where did you learn your love for the water?
My uncle was a professional deep sea diver in New Smyrna Beach, FL all his life. He and I were pen pals and he would always send me treasures from his undersea adventures. I have incredible videos of sunken ships full of sharks and exotic fish from his travels. He passed away from brain cancer a few years ago, but he and I will always share a love for the ocean. I cried basically through the entire movie of Moana because her “calling” to the ocean is extremely relatable for me. (anyone else singing the song now?? *and no one knoooomooooows how far it gooooooooes*)
Why do you love Mermaids so much?
I grew up loving The Little Mermaid. The movie combined everything I love- the ocean, amazing music, and a beautiful fairytale. I remember being in the tub as a child pretending to be Ariel.
How long have you been using a Mermaid Tail?
I have had my tail since about 2012! I remember calling Eric, The Mertailor, and asking him about a custom tail like Ariel’s, and when I turned in my measurements, he questioned my length because I am 6 feet tall! I’m currently working on a new tail by Eric and can’t wait for y’all to see!
What do you think people can learn from Mermaids?
People are fascinated by mermaids. It’s the magic, the beauty, the graceful mystery that draws us to them. Some people won’t understand why we do what we do, and that’s okay. I think being a mermaid gives us a platform to teach the world about the ocean’s magic, about being whatever you want to be, you make your own reality.
What is your favorite Mermaid or ocean quote?
A dear friend gave me this quote framed, and I love seeing it on my wall everyday:
“I must be a mermaid, for I have no fear of depths but a great fear of shallow living.”
That sums me up in a nutshell!
What camps or mermaid gatherings have you been to or wish to go to?
Is it crazy that I’ve never been to any mermaid events?? That is on my list for this year and I hope I get invited to some!
What ocean conservation efforts do you support?
What are you favorite Mermaid theme items or clothing?
I am obsessed with The Laundry Room because they have a lot of “Everyday Mermaid” clothing items—which is what my brand and vlog is all about!
Any tips and tricks for fellow Mermaids?
Be YOU! There’s so much of a comparison game with social media these days. Don’t compare yourself to others and find a way to be unique!
There’s been a boom in popularity for mermaids right now—I hope it keeps growing and becomes an amazing community that makes a difference!
Thanks Abbey! We can’t wait to see what you do in 2018 and how full-filling your life becomes!
