Meet Real Mermaid Faith on the Bass! A leading mermaid and Youtube sensation  in underwater video and tail reviews! Make sure to subscribe to her channel to see what crazy thing she is up to next!

Let’s get Started! Faith, What started all of this?

I noticed when shopping around for mermaid tails that there wasn’t much by way of video reviews of them and decided to apply my years of video production experience to make reviews on YouTube. They were nothing amazing to start with but as time went on I got better at it and people started to notice! I always want to provide the Internet with the most reliable information regarding mermaid tails as well as an opinion or two. Even though I only use fabric tails and I feel as though my collection is never complete and I want to give people the opportunity to see what their options there are regarding mermaid tails.

Where does Nermaid come from?

For calling myself Nerdmaid, once upon a time I was swimming by myself in an empty pool and decided to wear my glasses and be like Traci Hines. So, I took some photos attempting to look like a hipster mermaid. My inner self-critic was like “who am I kidding, I’m not a hipster mermaid… I’m a nerdmaid.” And I actually really liked it and the name stuck!

Where are you from? What do you enjoy filling your day with?

I’m from Vancouver BC, and am currently employed as a General Technician for concerts and events as well as part-time lifeguarding. Besides mermaiding, I like hanging out with my friends and playing bass at my church.

Where did you learn your love for the water?

I took swimming lessons ever since I was 2 years old and have always excelled in the water. I am always the last one out of the water when my family and friends will go to the beach! Mermaiding just seemed like an obvious thing to pick up. Right when I started out mermaiding, I began my lifeguard training and have moved up in both areas since then.

Why do you love Mermaiding so much?

I love it because it’s an obscure dorky hobby that I can share with others which suits me perfectly! I’ve always had very strange and diverse interests, and I have always loved swimming. Being able to put on a mermaid tail and be completely relaxed underwater is what makes it so special to me. The community surrounding this has been one of the brightest points in my life so far and I am always up to try something new and get better at my craft.

How long have you been using a Mermaid Tail?

I became a mermaid in the summer of 2014 and have been doing it ever since! That summer, mom told me about a girl at our local pool who had a mermaid tail. I decided that it was rad and that I was going to do it. I spent about 2 weeks researching and then ordered my very first tail! It was a Finfun sparkle green tail with a monofin, and now I own about 16 different tails!

What do you think people can learn from Mermaids?

So many people who I teach “to mermaid” suddenly can understand how much they are capable of. It recaptures the imagination. I enjoy making people happy. Mermaiding helps people gain a better physical intelligence in the water.

What camps or mermaid gatherings have you been to or wish to go to? What was your favorite part?

One day, I would love to run my own mermaid school with various different formats. I have been to Aquamermaid for a one hour class and really enjoyed seeing how much fun everyone had becoming mermaids! I also facilitate pod meetups and take great pleasure in the joy everyone experiences in swimming as a pod!

What ocean conservation efforts do you support?

I fully support the rehabilitation of marine animals, and my favorite local aquarium works towards the rescue and rehabilitation of marine animals along the Pacific Coast!

What are you favorite Mermaid theme items or clothing?

I absolutely adore all my mermaid stickers on my laptop!

What is your favorite Monofin?

My favorite monofin is definitely the Mahina, so I would say that its a great investment.

Any tips and tricks for fellow Mermaids?

My tip is to enjoy every stage! I’ve seen many young mermaids get really excited then discouraged about owning a silicone tail – my advice is to work hard for what you want and be the best mermaid you can be at every point in your journey!

Thanks Faith! Can’t wait to see what you do next!
