Yet again another wonderful event at the San Marcos Mermaid Parade.
This year I was invited by Adventure Mermaids to be on their float and let me tell you. It was seriously so much fun. All the mermaids and mermen from the surrounding Texas areas all joined together. Why? Because we love mermaids ya guppies!
Every year San Marcos celebrates their un official mascot The Mermaid. This was the biggest and best year yet for the San Marcos Mermaid Society in celebrating the guardians of the river. The city is known for the Aquarena Springs a previous underwater entertainment park. This years special feature was the10 7 foot statues which support art, culture and the natural resources provided by the spring. 5 statues will be placed on the river, and 5 around the town.
I’m on a Float!
After meeting the group, we set up the float and waited for the parade to start. Putting on a mermaid tail isn’t the easiest thing to do. We had Tim, our mermaid wrangler , help us get on and off the float. Thanks TIM!
The best part of the parade was watching the little girls get so excited to wave to the mermaids. Their faces would light up like the 4th of July. Everyone was in a happy mood, and the weather was nice for a summer/fall day in Texas.
I wasn’t able to get many pictures of the other floats as my walking ability was limited (aka didn’t have my land legs), and I was having so much fun waiving to the crowds. I did get a few pictures of the parade and other floats that passed by.
There were nearly 100 entries this year and on record, the largest turn out for a parade in San Marcos. Their mission is to help raise funds and awareness of how we can preserve the rivers and the spring. With more than 1,800 guests at the parade, this was the most successful event yet. Great job guys!
A few highlights
Best Dressed
I stopped this beautiful mermaid and asked where she got her top. She straight up DIYed a fake artichoke heart into a mermaid top. #skills
Best Couple Dress
I recognized this couple from last hear and they really out did themselves! Where do you get a mermaid cape? Awesome head pieces by the way!
Most Creative
This is Polly the plastic mermaid. She creatively supports the removal of trash in the ocean. Check out her website! Let’s all do our part and recycle!
Most Gangster Mermaid
Because when you are that young, you can totally pull off a scooter, shades and a triton staff.
Honorable Mentions
So cute! They had bubble coming out the back and these Schnauzers were so content. You can’t see it in the pictures but they had little mermaid shell tops. Good job pups!
After the parade was the festival. Live music, food, vendors, while everyone still in character. It seemed the participants had doubled in size with more vendors, food trucks, and mermaid enthusiast. Thanks for putting on a great show and we can’t wait until next year!
